Delaware-
The colony of Delaware was founded by Peter Minuit in 1638, and was a Charter colony. Delaware was founded after many settlers that tried to reach Pennsylvania, but gave up because they figured it was too far away. That meant the settlers of Delaware lived the same way as colonists from Pennsylvania.
Delaware was and still is a home for important historical figures, such as artist Felix Darley, author John Phillips, and patriot Caesar Rodney. The type of settler that you would have seen most often in Delaware were people who were eager to reach Pennsylvania, but stopped because of the great distance that it would have taken to reach their destination. |

New Jersey-
New Jersey was founded by Lord Berkeley in 1660, and was created as a Royal colony. The reason for New Jersey's founding was for trade and profits. This meant that the settlers had to build a trade center and then make profits. The Duke Of York thought his land, New York, was too big so he gave some of it to Lord Berkley.
The colony of New Jersey was a target place for people who wanted religious freedom, free from persecution. They wanted to have the liberty to express the religion of their choice. In addition, there were no specific requirements to come to New Jersey. New Jersey is also the home and birthplace for many important Americans, like musician Jon Bon Jovi, jurist William J. Brennan, and author Judy Blume. |

New York-
In 1626, New York was founded by the Duke of York, and became a royal colony. New York was founded to be a joyful place for colonists who either believed in, or wanted religious tolerance and religious freedom. The colony of New York was a place for any person who wished to express their religion in their own way, and not have to worry about being confronted about it.
New York was and is the home to many historical figures of America, such as suffragist Susan B. Anthony, President Millard Fillmore, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The common settlers found in New York were English men and women who were in search for a ticket to the New World to be free from religious persecution and confrontation. |

Pennsylvania-
The colony of Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn in 1660, and became a Charter colony. Pennsylvania was founded for the Quakers in England, since they were brutally punished for expressing their faith. William Penn and the other Quakers were being arrested, fined, and even hung just because of the faith that they believed in. Therefore, Penn suggested that they flee England and head for the New World.
The type of colonists that you would have seen in Pennsylvania were male and female Quakers who got the opportunity to escape religious persecution in England. Pennsylvania was the home and birthplace of many famous Americans, like patriot Betsy Ross, sculptor Alexander Calder, and President James Buchanan. |
